BES Expo 2000

The Broadcast Engineering Society (India) organized BES EXPO 2000: 6th International Conference & Exhibition on Terrestrial and Satellite Broadcasting from 2nd to 4th February, 2000 at Hotel Taj Palace, Sardar Patel Marg, New Delhi. Approved by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and supported by All India Radio, Doordarshan, PTC India Foundation and Society of Broadcast Engineers (USA), the expo was attended by 60 companies from France, Germany, Hong Kong, Israel, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, UK, USA and India. The expo was of special interest to professionals working in the areas of audio, video, multi-media, cable and satellite broadcasting, Nearly 3,500 professionals visited the expo to see the latest broadcasting products, equipment and services that were on display. Participating companies in the expo included Sony, Panasonic and JVC from Japan, Thomcast and Thomson from France, Advent, NDS and PAG from UK, Cartoni and Electronika from Italy, Philips and Scientific Atlanta from Singapore, and Telesteam from USA.

A top-level conference on Digital Versatile Broadcasting- A New Challenge was held concurrently with the exhibition. Some of the best known professionals in the field of broadcasting spoke on subjects of current interest including Digital Video Broadcasting, Digital Audi Broadcasting, Digital Studios, Broadcasting Policy and Financing Strategies, Digital Media-Asset Management & Archiving and interactivity. The conference was attended by over 500 delegates from different parts of India.

BES EXPO 2000 was inaugurated by Shri Arun Jaitley, Hon’ble Minister for I&B in the presence of Shri Y.N.Chaturvedi, Secretary, Ministry of I&B and Shri R.R.Shah, CEO, Prasar Bharati, Dr. K.Kasturirangan, Secretary, Department of Space and Chairman Space Commission delivered the keynote address on the opening day. On the following two days, keynote addresses were delivered by Justice P.B.Sawant, Chairman, Press Council of India and Mr. David Wood of European Broadcasting Union.

The BES exhibition was also inaugurated by Hon. Minister of I&B Shri Arun Jaitely. Participation from manufacturers, dealers, distributors, suppliers of products, equipment, systems and services related to terrestrial and satellite broadcasting was appreciated by exhibitors as well as visitors.
