BES Expo 2006


Inaugral Function
Broadcast Engineering Society (India) organized the 12th international Conference & Exhibition. on Terrestrial & Satellite Broadcasting; on 9-11 February 20136 at Taj Palace Hotel, Sardar Pate I Mara, New Delhi.

The theme of the Conference was Broadcast Trends : Reaching the unreached which is the most appropriate in the present scenario of broadcasting, Shri Priya Ranian Dasmunshi, Honb’ble Minister of information & Broadcasting was the Chief Guest at this occasion.

The function was presided over by Shri S.K. Arora, Secretary, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting. The dias was shared by Mr, Sung Dai Noh, Chairman, Korean Broadcasting & Commission who enjoys the status of Minister of Information & Broadcasting and Shri K.S, Sarma, Chief E x e c u t i v e Officer , f r a s a r Bharati. as Guest of Honour . The key­ note speaker was Ml James Andrew Butler. Senior Director, Pub1ic Broadcasting Service and Former President, SBE, U S A.

The dignitaries on the dias were welcomed with floral bouquets, books and Angvastram. The function started with traditional Sarswati Vandana. The President, BES (I) welcome the dignitaries, VIPs and delegates through his welcome address. The events was inaugurated by the Chief Guest by lighting the ceremonial lamp. On this occasion Broadcast Engineering Society (India) brought out three books under the BES (I) Learning Tool Series.

The first book titled “ Hard Disk Based Audio Delivery Systems” was released by Shri K . S Sharma, CEO, Prasar Bharti. The second book titled “FM Broadcasting” was released by Shri S . K Arora, Secretary, Ministry of I & B . the third book on “Digital Measurements” was released by Mr. Sung Dai Noh, Chairman, Korean Broadcasting Commission. Shri Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi, Hon’ble Minister of Information & Broadcasting and Chief Guest at the function released Conference Proceedings and Exhibition Directory. All the dignitaries also shared their thoughts with the audience excerpts of their speeches are published in this issue of BES Review. On this occasion the newly constituted life time achievement Award was presented to Shri H . S . Jolly , former Engineer in Chief, all India radio and the first president of BES (I) by the Hon’ble Minister of Information & Broadcasting. The BES (I) awards for technical excellence and innovative work in the field of Broadcasting were also presented by the Chief Guest. The Exhibition was also inaugurated by the Hon’bole Minister of Information & Broadcasting the chief Guest.

The vote of thanks for the innaugral ceremony was proposed by shri D.K Gupta, Hon. Secretary , BES (I).

Technical Sessions

The conference was spread over in six sessions on 10 th & 11 th February 2006. The details of the sessions and the speakers are given below.

This year the star attraction of the conference were live demonstration on Broadcasting to Mobile by M/s. Nokia, Singapore and Digital Multimedia Broadcasting by Korean Broadcasting Commission and also by World DAB, UK.

Shri K.S Sarma, CEO, Prasar Bharti also shared the dias. Shri K.S Sarma, CEO, Prasar Bharti felicitated the authors of three books released during inaugural function under BES (I) Learning Tool Series. The Authors are Shri. R. k. Singh, Chief Engineer (Trg.), Shri T.N Kundra, Director (Engg.), Shri R, vidyasagar, Director (Engg.), Shri P.N . Bhakta, Shri I.I. Georage, Shri S. Muthuswamy, Shri Rajendra kumar and Shri P.K. Pati, Dy. Directors(Engg.), STI(T) AIR & Doordarshan, Delhi.

During Bes EXPO 2006 a news letter cosponsored by SONY (India) was also published and circulated every day on 9 th , 10 th, and 11 th, February 2006 providing details of the day’s activities, information about the Society and highlights of previous day.

Tutorial

On 9 th February 2006, a Tutorial Session was organized on Broadband : The Next Generation which was Chaired by shri D. Ray, Chief Engineer, Doordarshan and the speaker was Shri Ranjan Ghosh, Vice President, Corporate Affairs, MTNL. This was followed by a presentation on Cost Effective Broadcast Technology Training by Shri R.K. Singh Chief Engineer (Trg.) STI(T) AIR & Doordarshan, Delhi.

 

Highlights of BES EXPO 2006

1. Ever highest participation by delegates and exhibitors

2. Live demonstration on Brosdcasting to Mobile by M/s Nokia, Digital Multimedia broadcasting by Korean Broadcasting Commission and a demonstration by World DAB, UK.

3. Presentation of life time achievement award.

4. Publication and release of three books under BES (I) Learning Tool Series in collaboration with STI(T) AIR and Doordarshan.

5. Representation of NAB and IABC in the exhibition.

6. A special felicitation session to honour all the founder members of the BES (I) and felicitation of the Authors for publication of the three books under BES (I) Learning Tool Series.

7. Touch screen for easy access.

8. Video wall for viewing proceeding in side and out side the Conference hall.

9. Cultural Programmes during Speakers’ dinner and Networking dinner

During this function the founder members of the Society namely Shri N.K Trivedi , Shri M.N. Mehtani, Shri B.B. Gaur, Shri B.P. Srivastava and Shri M.M. Asthana were felicitated by the Hon’ble Minister Couple by presenting them a shawl and a certificate. The certificate on behalf of Shri P.C. Khare. However Shri O.P. Khusu, Shri N.J. Nair and Shri Vigyan Prakash wee not present and their certificates were mailed to them separately.

Exhibition

This year around 300 companies from 25 Countries participated in the exhibition directly or through their Indian dealers. These companies exhibited the State of Art technology, latest equipment and services.

Delegated & Visitors

During EXPO 2006 the participation by delegates was ever highest and about 7500 visitors from various organizations including IT industries, Corporate sector, Satellite Channels, Ministries of Defense, Railways, Space, various engineering colleges and Prasar Bharati. Student from Engineering Colleges have taken keen interest in the exhibition and could appraise themselves with the latest technologies. The delegates and visitors by and large appreciated the conference and exhibition and conveyed their feelings to the organizers.

Speaker & Networking Dinner

The President, BES (I) hosted a dinner on 9 th February 2006 in the honour of Speakers & panelist. On this occasion a solo Kuchi Pudi dance presentation was made by Dr. Anand Shankar Jayant.

On 10 th February 2006 a Networking dinner was hosted jointly by Broadcast Engineering Society (India) and Korean Broadcasting Commission which was attend by all the delegates, Exhibitors & invitees of Korean Broadcasting Commission. On this occasion a bouquet of dances was organized for the entertainment of the invitees from India and abroad. Glimpses of these dances could be seen in the pictures.

The event came to an end on 11 th February 2006 by a sum up by Shri N.S Ganesan, President, BES(I) followed by vote of thanks proposed by Shri D.K . Gupta, Hon. Secretary and also announcing the theme for BES EXPO 2007 as “Multifaceted Broadcasting .”

Press Conference

On the eve of BES EXPO 2006 a Press Conference was called on 08-02-06 in the Arcade Hall of Taj Palace Hotel, Sardar Patel Marg, New Delhi, Shri N.S. Ganesan, President, BES (I) accompanied by the BES Council addressed the Press Conference which was largely attended by print and electronic media from India and abroad. He briefed the media and press on the main features of BES EXPO 2006 and the theme of this year “Broadcast Trends : Reaching the Unreached ”, both with regard to the content and carriage. In this Conference an audio visual presentation on the aims and objectives and various activities of the society was made. The President answered the media persons’ queries made by them. On this occasion Society’s contribution to the field of broadcasting and vide range of its membership base. He also talked on live display of CMB, DAB and DVBH by various foreign exhibitors at the BES EXPO 2006. A book on Society’s profile and three books on Learning tool Series being released during BES EXPO 2006 were made available to the media persons.
