Direct to Home (DTH) - A Report

The Bangalore chapter of the BES(I) organized a workshop on DTH Broadcast – Delivery Mechanism on 9th May 2004 at Hotel Atria, Bangalore.was well attended by its local chapter members & delegates from Broadcast & Industrial Sector.

The Workshop was inaugurated by Shri Basarajaiah, Director, Bangalore complex, BEL. The keynote address was presented by Lt. Col.(Retd.) V.C. Khare, Consultant, Reliance Infocomm, highlighting about, what is DTH, how does it work, its policy and other issues regarding DTH. This workshop was co-sponsored by M/s. TEKTRONIX (I) Ltd. After the inaugural address, the workshop proceeded with the presentation on different topics.

In the first session there were two presentations, the first Topic being DTH Base Band up & Migration line to Broad Band, presented by Mr. David Mouan, Dy. Head of product management, Compression & Transmission Thomson/Nextream, France, followed by a topic on TRANSMIT & RECEIVE SEGMENT of DTH by Mr. Hanumanthrayappa & Mr. Suresh Naik, Engineer/Scientist from ISRO HQ.
In the second session on SET TOP BOX: Today & Tomorrow, Mr. Srikanth, Prog. Manager, Samsung India highlighted the Architecture, Trends and opportunities in Set Top Box market space.

The 3rd session in the afternoon started with presentation on CONDITIONAL ACCESS by Mr. Chellam Bose, OSD (Tech.) to CEO , Prasar Bharati, followed by a presentation on INTERACTIVE TELEVISION by Mr. Narayana Nunna, Vice President, I Comm. Tele Ltd. who highlight the present Trends in Interactive Television.

In the last session the sponsors presented the TEST & MEASUREMENT TOOLS & APPLICATION. The Topic was presented by Mr. Sadanand Patil, Business Manager, TEKTRONIX (I) Ltd.

To conclude the workshop, M/s. TEKTRONIX (I) has arranged a demonstration of their latest Test & Measuring Instruments, M/s. BHARAT ELECTRONICS had given a exposure of their new product Set Top Box and THOMSON- NEXTREAM gave demo of their new product VIBE which was well received by the Delegates.

To commemorate the event a SOUVENIR was brought out by the society, which contains paper presented & also Technical articles relevant to the theme of the workshop.
