Emerging Trends in Multimedia Delivery Platforms

The BES (I), Ahmedabad chapter organized a one day seminar on "Emerging trends in multimedia delivery platforms" on March 12, 2006 at ATIRA Auditorium. Ahmedabad. Deliberated emerging trends in multimedia viz: 'IPTV, MHP, DMB, DVB-H' Broadband. About 400 delegates from various filed offices of AIR, DD, ISRO, BSNL and other departments & Industries, faculties from various academic institutions and students from various Engg. Institutions attended the seminar.

The event was inaugurated by Shri DK Agrawal, CGM, Gujarat Telecom Circle, BSNL, Ahmedabad who also released the souvenir. Shri D.K.Gupta, Chief Engineer, Doordarshan Directorate & Hon. Secretary BES (I) gave felicitation address. The Key-note speaker Shri A. K. Bhatnagar, Chief Engineer, R&D, AIR & Doordarshan, in his speech covered the past, present and the future of multimedia broadcasting in the country and world over. Chairman, BES (I), Ahmedabad chapter Shri G. C. Jain welcomed the dignitaries & delegates and outlined the programe of the day, Hon. Secretary Shri D. S. Kushwah proposed Vote of Thanks to the packed audience.

Followed by the inaugural session, three technical Sessions were conducted. The Session was on "Technology standard Acquisition/Processing", Ist session was chaired by Shri A. K. Bhatnagar and the speaker Shri A R Dasgupta Distinguished professor Bhaskaracharya Institute of S applications and Geo-information. Gandhinagar talked on "Anat of e-learning". Dr, Mohan Tandon Director, Innomedia Techno Pvt. ltd., delivered on "Road Netway" and gave a L demonstration of "CHOISPAD", This is for the time in the world the "Multimedia pod" has developed by which a person connect himself anywhere i world of voice, data and vid his roof top portable, econo CHOISPAD. The audience spell-bound by Dr. Ta presentation as it was demonstration for the first time in INDIA. R. Ganesh Tektronix. Bangalore talked on the "New compression technologies & MTS4EA" in great detail. Shri J.K. Chandira, Deputy Director, DD, Directorate, New Delhi talked on "Broadcast media asset management in a TV production work flow". finally Shri Jayant B Rangari, Shaf Broadcast discussed about "MPEG - 4, H - 264, 3GPP & Enterprises solutions".

The Session - I I was on "Distribution and Transmission Systems". The Session was chaired by Shri VK Garg, Dy Director, Space Application Center, and Ahmedabad. Shri VK Arya, General Manager, BSNL spoke on "IPTV & Its applications", Shri Ashish Jain, Director, MCBS talked on "Present status and future trends in CATV", Shri G. C. Jain, MD, MCBS and Chairman, BES( I ), A-hmedabad chapter talked on "New era of DTH in India". Shri SH Khatri, GM, Arraycom, Vadodara talked on "DTH Uplink platform". The last speaker of this session Shri SK Sharma, Director, DD, Directorate, New Delhi, discussed on "Broadcast on Mobile" mentioning the ongoing TV reception in the moving vehicles in the metro cities of India and highlighted the planning of Doordarshan DVB - H project.

The Session - III was on "Radio & TV Broadcasting and Multimedia impact on the Society". The Session was chaired by Shri D. K. Gupta, CE, Doordarshan India. The speakers were Shri K. Bandyopadhyay, Group Director SAC, Shri SK Soni Professor, TTTI, Bhopal, Shri B. P. Srivastava, Technical Advisor, BECIL, New Delhi and Shri SR Joshi consultant, DECU/ISRO, Ahmedabad. Professor Soni talked on "Content development & distance education". Shri Bandyopadhyay talked on "Satellite mobile TV", in which he discussed three technologies in this regard, namely, DVB-H, MBMD, DMB-S and ISRO's plan for satellite broadcasting to mobile TV was talked about. Shri BP Srivastava Tech. Advisor, BECIL described in detail the "Present and future scenario of FM Broadcasting in INDIA", and how the common facilities will be shared by public sector and private sector for this purpose. Shri SR Joshi talked on "Social impact of multimedia" and mentioned the impact is good and bad, depending upon the totality of the system and our preparedness for the same.

The Exhibititors were Arraycom, BSNL, Decision Plus(Matrox Dealer), MCBS & World Space. The event was well reported in the press in local and national dailies.
