Seminar on 'Satellite Broadcasting Application and Prospects' at Jaipur on 10 th March 2007

Satellite Broadcasting has been revolutionized in the counting through SITE. It received major boost by Television expansion in the country, which came to its peak during Asian Games event in the year 1982. Television then spread to the length and breadth of this country through a special drive by installing 'One TV transmitter a day'.

A Seminar was organized by the Rajasthan Chapter of Broadcast Engineering Society (I) and GIT on 10th March 2007 at the auditorium of the Global Institute of Technology, Jaipur on 'Satellite Broadcasting Application and Prospects". It was also an event for the inauguration of 'First Student Forum' of BES (I) in the country.

Inaugurating the Student Forum and the Seminar, Dr. O.P.N. Calla, renowned space scientist and Fellow of BES (I) explained in detail the contribution of Dr. Vikram Sarabhai, pioneer of Satellite Transmission in India and his vision for applying the space technology for uplifting the poorest among the poor in India . This technology has now penetrated very deeply in remote sensing, imaging, remote education, environmental studies, communication, broadcasting etc. Present Edusat is a step further in this direction. Multibeam facility has enlarged the scope of Edusat for a multilingual, multicultural and diverse country like India .

In his presidential address, Dr. Awdhesh Kumar, Chairman, Rajasthan Chapter of BES highlighted the importance of Broadcasting with particular reference to India . With booming economy and opening of media to private sector, State of the Art Technology has entered into the media particularly electronic media in

India , at present, broadcasting technology has not been recognized to the extent desired of in the country. Academic institution and Universities are taking broadcasting as a part of electronics curriculum while it is a full-fledged stream. With rapid growth in terrestrial, cable and satellite mode of transmissions in India , the broadcast Engineers and content creators are in short supply. This gap is to be abridged before it is too late.

Welcoming the delegates, Prof. Neeraj Gupta, Director Global Institute of Technology (GIT) informed the gathering about the activities of the BES (I) in their institute. According to him, activities of BES have impressed the institute, its faculty and students very deeply. It has resulted into 58 students of this institute to be enrolled as its student members and consequently the "First Student Forum of BES" in India . Prof. Gupta announced that GIT would also like to be an institutional corporate member of BES, which was applauded by the audience.

Mr. O.P. Rajpurohit, Hon. Secretary of the Chapter mentioned the activities of Rajasthan Chapter of BES. The chapter membership has grown exponentially from 20 to about 230 Members. Mr. Rajpurohit said that Engineers, Scientists and technologists are coming forward for their active participation and contribution to the cause of BES (I). The chapter is planning to organize a national event in Rajasthan sometime this year to focus the recent development in Broadcasting in the State of Rajasthan . With the convergence of technologies, various fields like broadcasting, telecommunication and IT have merged and their distinction is marginalized.

Mr. Raj Kumar Bhutra, Student Member was declared as a coordinator of student Forum GIT of BES (I) for effective co-ordination with BES Rajasthan Chapter and Student Forum.

In the end, Prof. S.P. Gupta, Principal GIT extended heartiest Vote of Thanks to all those who participated to make the event a success. The colourful anchoring by Mr. Rajat Mehta & Ms. Niyati Kothari was appreciated by one and all.

The event got week long coverage on Doordarshan National and Regional News and coverage in weekly Current Affairs Programme of Doordarshan, Rajasthan like Matiri Mahak, Sarokar, Aas-pas, Suranga Rajasthan, Rajasthan Aajkal and couple of days on Bhaskar TV, Patrika TV at prime time coverage. It also found place in various National and Regional Newspapers.
